Twenty Named Academic All-Big 12 At-Large

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Twenty West Virginia University student-athletes have been named to the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 At-Large Teams, the conference office announced on Friday.
 
The team recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at institutions who participate in sports outside of Big 12 competition, including rifle and men's soccer.
 
A conference-best three Mountaineers were recognized with 4.0 grade point averages: senior midfielder Pascal Derwaritsch (sport management) of the men's soccer team and senior David Koenders (psychology) and sophomore Verena Zaisberger (music) of the rifle team.
 
In all, 19 WVU student-athletes were named to the first team: senior defender Albert Andres-Llop (sport management), Derwaritsch, senior defender Sebastian Garcia-Herreros (civil engineering), junior midfielder Pau Jimenez Albelda (multidisciplinary studies), senior midfielder/defender Ryan Kellogg (finance), senior defender Logan Lucas (global supply chain management), junior defender Kevin Morris (mathematics), senior midfielder Andres Muriel Albino (sport management), junior forward Spenser Myers (business), senior forward Ethan Shim (physiology), junior midfielder Nic Short (sport and exercise psychology) and junior goalkeeper Steven Tekesky (sport management) from men's soccer and senior Milica Babic (industrial engineering), junior Noah Barker (multidisciplinary studies), sophomore Jared Eddy (exercise physiology), Koenders, junior Sarah Osborn (exercise physiology), senior Morgan Phillips (sport and exercise psychology) and Zaisberger from rifle.
 
Additionally, junior midfielder Tsubasa Takada (sport management) of men's soccer earned second-team honors.
 
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 GPA or better, while the second-team selections hold a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.
 
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
