Mountaineers Hit the Road for Regular-Season Finale at No. 30 Iowa State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team is on the road to Ames, Iowa for its final regular-season match. First serve against No. 30 Iowa State is set for 2 p.m. ET, at the Ames High School Tennis Courts.
 
"We cannot be more excited to conclude the 202 regular-season against Iowa State," Mountaineer coach Miha Lisac said. "This is another huge opportunity for our team to establish our program."
 
The Mountaineers (7-15, 0-8 Big 12) and the Cyclones (14-5, 3-5 Big 12) are set to meet for the ninth time since 2009. West Virginia is seeking its second win over Iowa State. WVU won its first Big 12 Conference match against ISU, 4-1, on March 24, 2018 in Morgantown. The last matchup between the two teams came in 2021, with the Cyclones taking the win, 2-5, in Morgantown.
 
Iowa State is currently ranked No. 30 nationally and come to Morgantown on a two-match losing streak, from then-No. 12 Oklahoma State, 4-3, and then-No. 2 Oklahoma,5-2.
 
ISU has two players ranked on the latest ITA national rankings, including No. 56 sophomore Thasaporn Naklo (21-10) and No. 91 freshman Ange Oby Kajuru (12-5).
 
West Virginia is coming off of its final 2022 homestand. The Mountaineers went 0-2 on the weekend, as they welcome then-No. 12 Oklahoma State and then-No. 2 Oklahoma, On April 8-10. WVU lost both matches, 7-0, at the Summit Tennis Academy, in Morgantown.
